10 Positive Developments In This AWFUL Post-WWE WrestleMania 35 Season
8. Aleister Black
And so the straw-clutching begins, a mere three slides in.
Aleister Black debuted cold on the main roster, literally, as Interchangeable Great Worker. Vince did not want Black specifically, but rather a handful of Triple H's best hands. The booking of his character, not that he had one beyond, and again this is literal, "Moody," saw Black absorbed in the temporary excitement of the Fatal 4-Way tag team sugar rush division. Black was essentially a gothic Uso, for all intents and purposes.
He is that no longer; WWE has actually made the effort to craft something approaching a backstory behind the character in the form of two vignettes.
The first of which was...strange; Black, wearing a t-shirt, seemed to break the fourth wall with his talk of "personas" and "characters". The second vignette is entitled 'What Does Fear Mean To Aleister Black?' The answer to that is '50/50 booking and a Dracula cape, followed by a refused release request', but the pitch black framing and his quietly menacing delivery go some way to rebuilding an aura squandered.
Look, Aleister Black might go full Brodus Clay at this point, because he's a bit goth and Vince McMahon hated Gangrel and probably thinks they are more or less the same person, but at least he's thought about this for longer than four minutes before showtime.
