WWE, to their credit, has been successfully elevating their secondary titles as of late. Even the NXT title, which wasn't even in need of redemption, has been boosted thanks to the John Cena/Kevin Owens feud.
Pitting the U.S. Champion against the NXT Champion is one of the hottest angles in wrestling right now. If WWE wanted to test if lightning can strike twice, look no further than Ryback and his IC title.
Admittedly, this is a potential feud that might not do wonders for Cena and his title because they're already hot right now. It might be perceived as a step down for John. But for Ryback and his Intercontinental Championship, it would be a huge step up.
