10 Powerful Wrestling Promos That Never Uttered A Word
1. Batista
Asked to explain his actions, Batista had bombed John Cena on the ring steps on RAW and walked away from an Elimination Chamber qualifier ahead of the titular 2010 pay-per-view. This promo, powerful in itself, developed even more gravity following the events of February 21, 2010.
Batista knew that victory was foregone. The smugness that he carried so magnificently was further informed by entitlement and the knowledge that he was set to inherit that which was due to him by default.
So when Josh Matthews, a man he visibly respected as much as a piece of sh*t on his boot, asked him to address the fans, he did not bother. This is a man who didn't even have to train for a big match to earn the highest distinction. And so, without deigning to speak to the crowd, he instead radiated a palpable disdain. He didn't even have to sneer, nor even make eye contact with them through his shades. He used the dark arts of pure presence to tell the story.
He did have a bit of fun at their expense, just to put the bit over the top: he twice dropped the microphone, not with force in a declarative statement, but because he knew that he didn't even need to exhaust energy by holding it.
