10 Problems Only WWE Fans Will Understand
6. And There’s So Much To Criticise
While it’s true that today’s WWE fans can find anything and anything to nitpick, that doesn’t mean there aren’t legitimate things to criticise about the current product. It’s just that… well, no one can agree on what they are.
For every bloodthirsty throwback to 1999 clamouring for the company to throw off the shackles of the advertisers and ditch the PG rating, there’s a cynic proclaiming that too many people have rose-tinted spectacles when it comes to the glory days of the Attitude Era, and that blood isn’t necessary to sell an angle in 2017.
For every fan outraged by the proliferation of part-timers materialising around WrestleMania season to grab a slice of the pie from the full time performers, there’s another who claims that the current crop can’t draw, a third who claims that’s because Vince McMahon can’t build stars anymore, a fourth who asserts that Vince McMahon never knew how to build stars and a fifth just standing on a chair shouting CM PUNK CM PUNK CM PUNK into thin air.
There are fans on comments threads and discussion boards administering the smackdown 24/7 to WWE’s 50/50 booking philosophy, the overuse of the distraction roll-up, scripted promos and Roman bloody Reigns. Meanwhile, for those who want to take a break from moaning about things that are happening right now, there are still (still!) threads arguing about the death of WCW, the botched Invasion angle and the burial of the Nexus.
And, of course, there’s your favourite wrestler and why he should be pushed versus the guy on your sh*tlist and why he should be sh*tcanned.
Overrated Vs. Underrated is a story that will never, ever die.
