10 Questions About WWE Brand Split

2. What Will Happen To The WWE World Heavyweight Championship?

While several components of the 2016 WWE brand split will differ from the 2002 WWE brand split, one major focus of the promotion that is likely to be handled the same is the status of the WWE Champion.

Back in 2002, the Undisputed WWE Champion was made exclusive to SmackDown (thus dropping "Undisputed") and the company then resurrected the WCW/NWA Championship, simply calling it the World Championship, as the top prize for RAW. While the details are unclear as to whether or not the World Championship will return, or if some other name will be given to the top title of the second show, WWE is planning to have dual world champions once again.

In a way, it's good for the product as it gives additional superstars a chance to become elevated to an upper-card level. Without the World Heavyweight Championship, stars like Daniel Bryan, CM Punk, Batista, and others may have had an even more difficult time breaking through to the main event. On the other hand, having two world champions is inherently confusing and it reduces the prestige associated with each championship.

How can anyone truly be considered THE guy, THE man, or THE best without having one distinct, individual champion?
