10 Questions With TNA World Champion Drew Galloway
1. The McMahon Prophesy
In Vince McMahon’s famous speech on the September 25, 2009 SmackDown, he proclaimed that he had personally signed you to the brand because you reminded him of himself. In that same testimonial, Vince predicted that you would be a “future World heavyweight champion”. A true visionary, Vince was right, wasn’t he?
“He was right. I always say that the man can see the future in many areas of wrestling. He created modern wrestling. He was 100 percent right. The timing might have been a little bit off.
“Hopefully, he saw something in me. It was his call to go out there and do that [on SmackDown]. Whatever he saw, it was always there. It just had to be developed, I guess. Now I’m at that stage where everything he hopefully saw has been developed, mentally, physically . . . promo-wise. That was something I never really heard much about before, but people these days are very complimentary. I do believe my in-ring game is my thing. But, now, I’m getting compliments about my talking, which I never had before.
“That was something, because of my accent, that [Vince] would say, ‘You’ve got to work on [your promos], so people understand you.’ I’m very conscious of that. If it’s an audio or TV interview, my accent is very different, very controlled, so people can understand everything I’m saying.”
