10 Radical Ideas That Could Save WWE's Tag Division
9. Start As You Mean To Go On
Tournaments are the in thing this season in WWE, so why not give the main roster a big TV version of NXTs recent Dusty Classic series? Have a title match end in a schmozz once too often, and the decision be made to hold up the tag titles and have them awarded to the winner of a tournament on free TV, culminating in a massive finals match near the top of the card at a special event. Each leg of the tournament should be held in a different week on RAW, WWEs flagship showand receive sufficient television time that the participants are able to tell a compelling story at least ten minutes. They can cut the boring-ass opening promos down by half to make room for it. There should be clean finishes for the most part, so that a heel team that scrapes through via massaging the rules gets all the heat in the world, as everyone else has clearly worked their asses off to get to the next round. Creative, dynamic booking can get any decent performer over given sufficient time on camera. The company has the most talented roster in living memory, and almost none of them are over due to the inadequacy of their booking. Heres a case in point: Neville, Barrett, Sheamus, Ziggler, Rusev and Cesaro are all working the pre-show at the Hell In A Cell pay-per-view (special event? Live special? Lollapalooza? What are we supposed to be calling these now?) this year, and all six men are legitimately some of the most exciting and talented performers in WWE yet, despite this, no one wants to see their match, because all six men have spent 2015 being characterised as dull and/or worthless. Easy money says that Barrett is the one pinned, because judging how Stu Bennetts career is going right now, he must have run over someones cat. A tournament that builds excitement over a period of weeks on free television will sell itself when it comes to the finals, and it has the potential to get individual tag teams over with the crowd even if they dont get through. WWE may have forgotten how to get someone over if theyre not going over, but the wrestlers know what theyre doing. Give them the ball and watch them run with it.
