10 Reasons Bret Hart Was Better Than Shawn Michaels

10. All Around, Hart Was The Better Technician...

The Heartbreak Kid was no slouch when it came to in-ring knowledge, being a master of timing, psychology and storytelling, but when all is said and done, it has to be said that The Hitman was the superior technical wrestler. A wrestler€™s wrestler with a no-nonsense demeanour and a legitimately impressive amateur background, Bret Hart truly was €˜The Excellence of Execution€™. There was a lot of old school in €˜The Hitman€™ and the true fans respected that about him. It was obvious to anyone with an ounce of sense about them that Bret Hart knew literally hundreds of ways to tie his opponents up in knots and have them screaming in agony. Lest we forget, Bret€™s father, the legendary Stu Hart, was a feared shooter well into his old age. Despite his obvious legitimacy as an athlete, there was an exhibition quality to Hart€™s best matches. True, his main events were often displays of pure €˜blood and guts€™ drama, but buried just underneath the glitzy multicolour comic book splendour of mid 90€™s WWE was an unassailably perfect display of holds, reversals and ring psychology, of a kind that has rarely, if ever, been seen in the modern age of professional wrestling.

I am a professional author and lifelong comic books/pro wrestling fan. I also work as a journalist as well as writing comic books (I also draw), screenplays, stage plays, songs and prose fiction. I don't generally read or reply to comments here on What Culture (too many trolls!), but if you follow my Twitter (@heyquicksilver), I'll talk to you all day long! If you are interested in reading more of my stuff, you can find it on http://quicksilverstories.weebly.com/ (my personal site, which has other wrestling/comics/pop culture stuff on it). I also write for FLiCK http://www.flickonline.co.uk/flicktion, which is the best place to read my fiction work. Oh yeah - I'm about to become a Dad for the first time, so if my stuff seems more sentimental than usual - blame it on that! Finally, I sincerely appreciate every single read I get. So if you're reading this, thank you, you've made me feel like Shakespeare for a day! (see what I mean?) Latcho Drom, - CQ
