10 Reasons Bret Hart Was Better Than Shawn Michaels
8. Bret Hart Was Also The Bigger Star...
In the early 1990s, WWFs business model, despite being enormously successful at the time, was actually ludicrously short sighted. The entire promotion had been built around mega star Hulk Hogan, who had steadfastly refused to help create new stars and then subsequently buggered off to Hollywood. To make matters worse, despite his immense popularity, The Hulksters replacement, The Ultimate Warrior, failed to draw as WWF Champion and was patently ill suited for a long run at the top of the card. This created an impossibly large power vacuum; one that Bret Hart would end up plugging. By the time Bret had clawed his way to the top of the WWF, the company was still in its one big star lots of smaller stars mode. Bret would ultimately go on to become that big star. The Hitman became a global celebrity in a way that HBK never did and was respected by the WWF fans, locker room and office in a way that Shawn Michaels, for all his headache-inducing antics, never was. Did Shawn Michaels ever do a guest voice on The Simpsons? I think not.
I am a professional author and lifelong comic books/pro wrestling fan. I also work as a journalist as well as writing comic books (I also draw), screenplays, stage plays, songs and prose fiction.
I don't generally read or reply to comments here on What Culture (too many trolls!), but if you follow my Twitter (@heyquicksilver), I'll talk to you all day long!
If you are interested in reading more of my stuff, you can find it on http://quicksilverstories.weebly.com/ (my personal site, which has other wrestling/comics/pop culture stuff on it).
I also write for FLiCK http://www.flickonline.co.uk/flicktion, which is the best place to read my fiction work.
Oh yeah - I'm about to become a Dad for the first time, so if my stuff seems more sentimental than usual - blame it on that!
Finally, I sincerely appreciate every single read I get. So if you're reading this, thank you, you've made me feel like Shakespeare for a day! (see what I mean?)
