10 Reasons For Increased Injuries To WWE Superstars

4. Wellness Program

The ban of steroids and certain other medications and vitamin supplements absolutely plays a part in the injury process of WWE superstars today. The WWE's drug testing and health policy, the Wellness Program, restricts the current superstars from taking certain medications or supplements that previous generations weren't restricted from taking. Many of these drugs helped reduce the amount of time needed to be taken off for injury. An argument can be made that steroids often increase the risk of injury or that they are used also after the talent is already injured in order to return more quickly since steroids can help speed up the recovery process. While that may be true as some steroids have been used for therapeutic/heeling purposes, there are other drugs that mask the seriousness of certain injuries or that kill the pain to allow superstars to work through injuries that are no longer allowed to be taken by WWE performers. The biggest offenders are painkillers and muscle relaxers that used to be eaten like Skittles by many of the wrestlers that needed to go out and perform despite being banged-up or injured. It's also the reason why many pro-wrestlers developed serious addiction problems and shortened life spans, but those medications have since been banned by the WWE Wellness Program as they look to provide a healthier environment for their talents.
