10 Reasons Why John Cena Heel Turn Would Be ‘Best For Business’

10. Hating Cena Would Unite The Fanbase Once Again...

Right now, around 60% of the €˜WWE Universe€™ (as the company insists on calling us) is still firmly in the €˜We Love Cena€™ camp. I€™m not basing that on anything but listening to the live crowds and reading a lot of message boards, so feel free to disagree as to the actual number (however, in anybody€™s estimation, it has got to be a fairly large amount). Because so many fans are booing him, it certainly does seem that even those that have cheered Cena since his initial ascent to main event status (in 2004-5) are now getting a little bit sick of his act. I mean, they can€™t all be jaded, ex-ECW fans, now can they? Also, it must be confusing for new fans to see Cena, the supposed €˜good guy€™, getting such a €˜bad guy€™ reaction from the crowd. Having Cena turn heel would probably nullify this effect by uniting the audience against him. In the end, those cheering for Cena will boo if he turns his back on them, but those booing Cena will likely never become Cena fans, no matter what he does. As curious as it sounds, hating Cena would bring the fanbase into alignment once again. John Cena could easily become the most hated heel in the history of the WWE. If the turn were handled correctly, the feeling of abject betrayal from his loyal fans would be nothing short of palpable. This anger could actually be powerful enough to translate into a spike in PPV buys as well as ticket sales. It would also be a chance for Cena the superstar to give something back. Programs with undercard babyfaces like Kofi Kingston, Dolph Ziggler, Seth Rollins and Cesaro (because, let€™s face it, as much as they may hate Paul Heyman, no one actually hates Cesaro), would push those guys over the top and into main event status in a way that would be lasting and concrete (something WWE has had trouble with in recent years).

I am a professional author and lifelong comic books/pro wrestling fan. I also work as a journalist as well as writing comic books (I also draw), screenplays, stage plays, songs and prose fiction. I don't generally read or reply to comments here on What Culture (too many trolls!), but if you follow my Twitter (@heyquicksilver), I'll talk to you all day long! If you are interested in reading more of my stuff, you can find it on http://quicksilverstories.weebly.com/ (my personal site, which has other wrestling/comics/pop culture stuff on it). I also write for FLiCK http://www.flickonline.co.uk/flicktion, which is the best place to read my fiction work. Oh yeah - I'm about to become a Dad for the first time, so if my stuff seems more sentimental than usual - blame it on that! Finally, I sincerely appreciate every single read I get. So if you're reading this, thank you, you've made me feel like Shakespeare for a day! (see what I mean?) Latcho Drom, - CQ
