10 Reasons Why John Cena Heel Turn Would Be ‘Best For Business’
8. Besides, Fans Would Reject A Mid-Card John Cena...
The John Cena character is just obsessed with the WWE Championship belt. He simply has to have it. Its like hes extremely insecure about not being the champion. Did Shawn Micheals, Bret Hart, The Rock, or Stone Cold ever have T-shirts made with a frickin PICTURE OF THE BELT on them? Just so they could always be the champ, even when they werent wearing the frickin belt!? No. No they didnt. We fans have had to put up with a decade of the same, turgid, monotonous Cena storyline from WWE creative. It goes something like this: Cena has belt. Cena loses belt. Cena wins belt back. In fact, until Bray Wyatt came along, (expertly playing Mankind to Cenas Undertaker) almost nothing else interesting had been done with John Cenas character for 10 long years. In fact, nothing at all was done except, Cena has belt. Cena loses belt. Cena wins belt back. Hes like Jack Sparrow with the Black Pearl or Gollum and the ring with that damned belt. He liked it so much; he even turned it into a Lethal Interjection Crew spinner. Thugnificent! The problem is that its boring. Its been done. It is stale, warmed over mush. However, the even bigger problem is that, without the belt, John Cena simply has no character to play. Hes either Hi, Im John Cena and Im the WWE Champ. Or else hes Hi, Im John Cena and Im soon going to be the WWE Champ. So, for a long time now, weve just become accustomed to a seemingly endless, repetitive cycle of, Cena has belt. Cena loses belt. Cena wins belt back. Cena has belt. Cena loses belt. Cena wins belt back. Or, in other words... My client, Brock Lesnar, conquered the Undertakers undefeated streak at WrestleMania. My client, Brock Lesnar, conquered the Undertakers undefeated streak at WrestleMania. My client, Brock Lesnar, conquered the Undertakers undefeated streak at WrestleMania. My client, Brock Lesnar, conquered the Undertakers undefeated streak at WrestleMania. Do you see? DO YOU SEE HOW ANNOYING THAT IS!? Sometimes, dropping to mid card status for a bit can be beneficial to a major stars career, especially if interest in them has waned a little. It is an opportunity for bookers to re-build the character from the ground up. This approach has worked in the past for stars such as Chris Jericho, Big Show, Rey Mysterio, Kane and others. However, if WWE dropped Cena down to the mid card (as they have done recently with Sheamus, Alberto Del Rio and Rob Van Dam - to great effect, it must be said), Cena would almost certainly flounder. Like it or not, hes one of the most decorated men in the history of professional wrestling. Because of this fact, as well as his apparent addiction to being WWE Champ, nobody would buy him as US or IC champion. So, what else can be done to keep Cena on top without boring the collective arses off of 40% of the fanbase? Answer? Turn him heel. After all, turning heel worked for Paul Heymans client, Brock Lesnar, who, I understand, had something to do with conquering the Undertakers undefeated streak at WrestleMania...
