10 Reasons To Be Excited About Wrestle Kingdom 11
9. Faction Warfare
One of the great layers of depth that New Japan adds to their product is a faction dynamic that allows performers to have not only a personal but also a group identity, aligning themselves with like-minded characters to create stories that are bigger than themselves.
Wrestle Kingdom provides the stage for the ultimate showdown between the different tribes, with multiple titles on the line and the chance to enter the new year as the top group. Even the matches with less at stake can have a feeling of gravitas simply because they represent the power struggle between Chaos, The Bullet Club, and Los Ingobernales. In fact, with Hiromu Takahashi's recent conversion to LIJ, every match on the card outside of the Tiger Masks will feature at least one representative from one of the big three factions.
Expect various momentum swings during the night. The Bullet Club might lose the Junior Tag Titles but regain the ROH Championship. Naito may lose to Tanahashi but his stablemates could pick up both the Trios and Junior Heavyweight Titles, keeping LIJ afloat. The biggest stakes lie unsurprisingly in the main event where the Chaos leader could be overthrown and we then see the Bullet Club reign supreme once more.
