On Monday night, Stephanie McMahon announced that Monday Night Raw would play host to a revived WWE Cruiserweight Division post-Draft. While WWE have traditionally struggled to promote the lighter weight classes and there’s an element of caution to be taken from the malaise surrounding the company’s current midcard belts, this is an incredibly exciting move, and one that should work wonders for the company.

The Cruiserweight Classic has been a complete success thus far. The fact that it exists in the first place shows that the company is completely dedicated to pushing Cruiserweight wrestling to the forefront, and the tournament has already played host to exciting performances from the likes of Kota Ibushi, Akira Tozawa, and Cedric Alexander.

The Cruiserweight division was a staple of WCW when Ted Turner’s wrestling juggernaut was at the peak of its power, and while it’d be wrong to assume WWE’s reincarnation will immediately live up to those lofty standards, WWE are perfectly positioned to make it a success.

Finn Balor and Neville are a great start, and fans should be salivating at the prospect of CWC competitors Ibushi, Tozawa, and Zack Sabre Jr. eventually joining them in the division.

Monday nights will soon be home to some of the most exciting wrestlers in the world delivering exhilarating, fast-paced action on a weekly basis, and that should be enough to intrigue even the most cynical of wrestling fans.
