When the evening began, the Philadelphia crowd was hot. After all, this had been the first WWE pay-per-view to come to Philadelphia since the 1990 edition of SummerSlam.

While fans knew they wouldn't see a new WWE Champion crowned (or Intercontinental, Women's, or Tag Team Champions for that matter), a new King was enough to get the blood pumping and Shawn Michaels was atop the list of hopefuls.

Shawn Michaels' first PPV appearance since turning babyface the night after WrestleMania XI resulted in many fans expecting The Heartbreak King to be crowned. Especially coming off that 'Mania main event performance and his time off that followed, Shawn Michaels appeared to be on the verge of big things and the Philly crowd had hoped it would start with the King Of The Ring.

While those big things did come eventually, it wasn't as soon as everyone might've hoped.

Shawn wrestled the undefeated Kama in tournament action, and the air went completely out of the building when the bell rang to signal a time-limit draw. Surely, Shawn would've advanced past the first round in his first PPV since the turn!

Unfortunately, there was no mistake, no shenanigans, and no winner, as Shawn Michaels, undoubtedly the most over superstar of the evening, would retreat to the back and not be seen on the show again.
