10 Reasons Why WWE Fans Are Rapidly Losing Faith
1. Nothing Has Any Consequences
Remember the time Dolph Ziggler single-handedly vanquished The Authority at Survivor Series 2014, forcing the reviled group to split “forever,” and establishing ‘The Show-Off’ as one of the company’s top babyfaces?
All seemed peachy coming out of the show, but WWE undid all their good work within a few weeks. The Authority returned to power, Ziggler was shunted back to the midcard, and the pay-per-view was forgotten about.
This situation is emblematic of one of WWE’s largest problems: a complete lack of consequences. Bad deeds often go unpunished, and good deeds are rarely rewarded. Wins and losses have become totally meaningless, as 50/50 booking prevents wrestlers from putting streaks together, building momentum, and getting over. Retirements, firings, major pushes, historic records: nothing is permanent anymore, and none of it matters.
What’s the point in persisting with a show in which nothing ever sticks? There often isn’t one. WWE are so prone to hitting the reset button in these situations that it feels like they’re actively asking their audience to forget prior events. This is not only frustrating, but an insult to our intelligence, and once you recognise the pattern, it becomes difficult to stay invested.
