10 Reasons Why You Need To Watch IMPACT Wrestling Right Now
7. Each Championship Has A Meaning
There is a championship problem in professional wrestling. Promotions are always on the look for something new, so if the opportunity arises to create a first-of-its-kind Intercontinental Hardcore Women's Tag Team Championship, they'll pull the trigger, hot-potato the straps between a confined slew of mish-mash pairings, and retire it within the space of a year.
In IMPACT Wrestling, each active championship is given the freedom to breathe, the division it needs to be sustainable, and, crucially, the shrewd consideration needed to have weighted meaning behind it. This has been omnipresent in the luxurious World Championship right through to the lowly Digital Media Championship, with each division being clearly defined. You won't get a Jason Hotch or a Crazzy Steve chasing the World Championship, just like you wouldn't see a Moose or a Brian Myers chasing the X Division Championship; neither scenario makes sense.
IMPACT does, however, irregularly send a higher-ranking talent to a lesser division with the sole intent being to raise the title's integrity, the recent prime example being Moose chasing the Digital Media Championship. A former World Champion shouldn't have cared for the ripoff Internet Championship - and Moose didn't. He was there to add virtue to the championship, doing so in good-to-great matches vs. Joe Hendry. The title, though not without its flaws, now comes with its own righteousness.
Imagine if WWE had done that, consistently, with the United States Championship.
