10 Reasons WrestleMania 33 Could Have Been The Best Ever
1. Kevin Owens Vs. Chris Jericho Could Have Been An All-Time Great
Many fans are angered over Kevin Owens dropping the Universal Title to Goldberg a few weeks before WrestleMania. Once again, a guy carrying the company on his back is pushed aside for the biggest show of the year. It just never seems to end.
WWE showed their hand in how they truly feel about Owens by having him job in two minutes to Brock Lesnar at Madison Square Garden. That should come as more of a shock, but for the vast majority of his title run, KO didn’t feel like a true top star, instead reduced to being a comedy act with Chris Jericho. And while the two were absolutely great in their roles, it prevented them from being taken seriously.
Lately, they’ve been trying to treat Owens as a legit competitor on TV, but they have a long, long way to go.
Imagine Owens being pushed as a legit prize fighter who physically dominated his opponents in the ring. It would be a continuation of how he was presented during his original feud with John Cena. To make things better, he’d be battling a Chris Jericho who had also been kept strong, and not pushed as a guy who had been continually jobbing out on TV every week. They would have had a lot more heat behind them, and their match would actually feel like it was worth the Universal Title being at stake.
The way things played out, the US Title really does feel more fitting for their showdown. It’s not their fault, as they were both doing some of the best work of their career, but the way management treated them left a lot to be desired. Because of it, WrestleMania is far less appetising than it should be.
