10 Reasons Why The WWE Brand Extension Was Great

7. The Announcers Were Not Stale

If you watch Raw on Mondays and Smackdown on Fridays these days, the shows sound exactly the same. That's because Michael Cole calls Raw with John Bradshaw Layfield on Mondays (with Jerry Lawler too) and then Cole & JBL return to call the action on Fridays too. We get the same jokes twice a week from those guys. It gets old really fast. It's the same thing with JBL making fun of him for being stupid while Cole mocks him back for making dated references from the 1960s or whatever period JBL is talking about at that particular moment. On PPV weeks, that's more of the same guys saying the same things. It makes us want to turn the volume down to avoid hearing them. During the brand extension days, the announce team of Jim Ross & Jerry Lawler handled Raw for the most part although they did bring in Joey Styles as well in one of their many instances where they messed around with Ross. The Smackdown team was usually Michael Cole & Tazz. When they did PPVs, the Raw guys called Raw matches and the Smackdown guys handled the matches from their show. The current product in WWE is very stale right now and a part of that reason is due to the announcers. They just don't offer anything new or different at a time when being different would really help.
