10 Reasons Why WWE Fans Should Be Watching New Japan Pro Wrestling

6. A Western Influence

One of the complaints levied against New Japan by western fans reluctant to give it a try is that the announcing is all in Japanese. Personally, I don't find this to be a problem €“ true, I can't understand a word the announcers say, but their signature sportscaster-like passion for the matches as they scream with excitement gets across a good deal more than a lot of WWE announcing does. Still, it can admittedly be difficult to dive right into the product and learn who's who and why they do what they do. Apparently, that's set to change. There have long been talks of offering English language commentary on New Japan Pay-Per-View events, and this seems to be coming close to fruition €“ Dave Meltzer recently reported that January's Wrestle Kingdom event may be aired in North America on televised (not internet) Pay-Per-View, and as such, an English-language version of the show would be produced€ with "high profile English-language announcers." Obviously, a statement as pregnant as that conjures up a particular big name in the minds of wrestling fans. While it's been reported that Jim Ross has shown an interest in working with the company, we'll have to wait and see what happens.
