10 Reasons Why WWF Vs WCW Invasion Angle Failed

1. WCW Lost Way Too Often

The WWE vs. WCW storyline should have been easy to tell. It should have been a case of WCW invading WWE as the heel group that won all the big matches in a clean and dominant fashion. Every time WWE looked like they were going to overcome them, WCW should have won. That doesn't mean that WWE had to be booked like some underdog babyface. It's just that fans had to believe that WCW was a threat to WWE and for that to happen they had to win key matches. The actual Invasion PPV in July 2001 did see WCW's side win, but that was only because a WWE guy Steve Austin turned on his team due to the fact that he was a heel. It would have been a lot better if some other WCW guy did a run-in perhaps as his debut in the company. That's when they should have brought in a Hogan, Nash, Hall, Sting or a guy of that caliber. Then they could have done a whole new series of angles after it. Nobody is going to pay to see losers wrestle. That's what WCW represented to a lot of fans. They lost the battle between WWE and if you're in Vince McMahon's seat you should be happy about that. However, you should also see the potential money that could have been made in milking that angle for all its worth. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIUNMJQU6KE From Vince's point of view, he likely thought if he put WCW guys over it would make his company look inferior. The thing is, WCW was also his company so it's not like he was hurting WWE by putting WWE over. They could have built the storyline up until WrestleMania 18 in 2002 and had WWE ultimately win the battle then. It would have made WWE a lot more money at that point too. Both of them were Vince's company at that point, so he should have put his pride aside and told the story the right way. Vince McMahon had the ability to tell the greatest wrestling storyline ever in 2001. Why did they end it so quickly? It was a mistake. A major one.
