10 Recent Mistakes That WWE MUST Learn From
9. Hot-Shotting The Belts
WWE's habit of constantly hot-shotting their title belts is becoming chronic. We saw it with the Raw Women's Championship last year, but the tactic actually worked that time, and helped bring an air of unpredictability to the Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte feud. Now, the habit has spread far beyond that division, with the Cruiserweight and United States Championships the latest to fall victim.
Neville's win over Akira Tozawa at SummerSlam saw him retake the 205lb belt just six days after losing it. Kevin Owens and AJ Styles recently passed the US gold around thrice within an 18-day period, though their Battleground finish is thought to be a botch. Either way, WWE have rarely treated title changes with such disregard, and it's taking a toll.
Few things erode a belt's credibility like a meaningless switch, and that's what's happening here. Instead of booking their titles in ways that make sense from a narrative standpoint, WWE are having them change hands solely to create a talking point, which works the first couple of times you do it, but soon wears off. They must realise this if they have any aspirations of making these belts mean something again.
