8. Sisterhood Of The Squared Circle

Organised in chronological fashion, Sisterhood of the Squared Circle attempts to chart the history of women's wrestling. Stretching right back to the carnival atmosphere of shows in the late-19th century, the read breaks down into individual profiles and thus has an easy to digest format. Better this than plain text attempting to weave a rambling story.

Admittedly, the latter half of the book does struggle somewhat, but that's probably because the 'Diva' characters WWE introduced later lack the personality of older names such as The Fabulous Moolah. What an interesting life Moolah led, and her stories highlight the different struggles lady wrestlers faced during a bygone era.

This is an excellent piece for anyone interested in WWE's current 'female revolution'. Women's wrestling hasn't always been viewed favourably by the top promotions, and that becomes clear when reading through many of the bios included.
