10 Saddest World Title Reigns In Wrestling History

1. Dolph Ziggler

Dolph Ziggler was World Heavyweight Champion two times. The shorter of the two reigns lasted all of thirty minutes and started when Ziggler was awarded the title for getting Speared by Edge (the Spear had been declared temporarily illegal by Vickie Guerrero). Amazingly, that is not Dolph Ziggler's most depressing title reign.

On 8 April 2013, Ziggler cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase on cold fish babyface champion Alberto Del Rio and won the World Heavyweight Championship; it was one of the loudest pops in WWE history. It felt like a long time coming, a culmination of years of hard work and dedication on Ziggler's part. It felt like he had arrived.

And then he got concussed. Ziggler took time off to recuperate, returning to WWE to lose the title back to Del Rio on 16 June. It was his first defense, and he spent a full month of his 70 day reign at home with a cold compress on his head. Despite lingering fan goodwill, Ziggler's career has never recovered.
