Somewhere, a non-wrestling fan flicking through channels has surely spotted Otis on FOX, stopped to see a few seconds of SmackDown and wondered how the hell he became an athlete. If his mugging and that belly poking out from underneath his shirt don't get a random's attention, then nothing will.

The alternative story WWE could tell is one of serious drive, ambition and triumph.

Otis was announced as one of 10 recruits signed to WWE's Performance Center in 2016. At the time, the company briefly spewed a blurb onto their website discussing his amateur wrestling prowess and clear potential. That was about it, and all talk of his amateur credentials stopped there.

The truth is that Otis was quite the mat man. He bagged a national title in the Greco-Roman category at the 2011 Junior Pan-American Games, secured bronze three years later at senior level and was on a shortlist to wrestle at the 2012 Olympic Games.

Big hams and dance moves mean more to the writers.
