We should have watched out for the shoe.

From the very second fans saw Mariah May on AEW television, we knew this moment was coming. When May arrived in All Elite Wrestling in November of 2023, as a fan of 'Timeless' Toni Storm, the comparisons to the 1950's film All About Eve were drawn. If the long play was the eventual split between the two, the only questions were when it would happen - and who would the fans be rooting for.

Storm was very much in the heel peak of her act, and the idea of her abusing a loyal fan only to receive her comeuppance seemed like the obvious play. Only for once, Tony Khan exercised some patience in his booking. With the help of May's STARDOM partner, Mina Shirakawa, the act became beloved by the fans and AEW had no choice but to lean fully into a babyface Storm.

So Mariah's brutal turn on her mentor really hit home.

After successfully winning the Owen Hart Tournament, setting herself on a collision course with the AEW Women's Champion, May wasted little time in revealing her true motivation. As Storm celebrated with her, May snapped instantly, bludgeoning her with the belt and then sending Lutha off the stage with a belt shot. But she wasn't done. May repeatedly drilled the heel of Toni's shoe into the champ's forehead, and the image of Storm, soaked in blood, screaming in agony will always be...timeless.
