10 Shocking Incidents Of Unprofessional Conduct In WWE
4. Alberto Del Rio & Racism
The wrestler now competing as Alberto El Patron's time with WWE came to an end in 2014 after a confrontation with a social media manager whom allegedly made some offensive remarks to Del Rio that the Mexican star took to be racist, something involving having Del Rio clean up after his meal. When ADR confronted Cody Barbierri about his comment, the man refused to apologize and smiled at him, which incensed Del Rio and prompted him to smack the man in the face. He was immediately fired by WWE for "unprofessional conduct and an altercation with an employee." Upon his release from the company, Del Rio began painting a picture of a WWE with prevalent racist attitudes in the highest levels of the company, even going so far as to single out Triple H: "The person calling me (later identified as Triple H by Del Rio himself) was one of the most important people in the company, and I said, 'We always hear these racist jokes from you, and because you're one of the most important people in the company in this company, your other employees hear you making these stupid comments, and they think they can do it,'" Del Rio said. There have been longstanding allegations of racism within the industry dating back to the infancy of the business, but in this day and age you'd hope such attitudes would have completely fallen by the wayside.
