10 Shocking Japanese Wrestling Incidents That You Need To Know About

2. Yoshiko Breaks Yasukawa's Face

This next entry makes the footage from GAEA girls look positively tame in comparison. A main event title match from the Stardom promotion rapidly descended into an uncomfortable shoot which resulted in one of the competitors being left with serious facial injuries. The match, if you can call it that, was between Yoshiko and Act Yasukawa. Yoshiko was apparently jealous of the younger Yasukawa's growing popularity and, after a quick exchange of punches, Yoshiko got the upper hand and began to pummel her opponent. After what seemed like an age, the referee gathered what was going on and stopped the match. Yasukawa was left with a broken cheek bone, fractured facial bones, a broken nose, a concussion and a fractured orbital bone. She spent two days in hospital receiving treatment for the various injuries. Worse still, she was just coming back from a six month injury layoff in which she almost went blind. Yoshiko was stripped of her title and suspended indefinitely by Stardom and management were forced to take pay cuts for several months. Stardom also banned punches to the face and will make sure that a doctor is at ringside for all events. Yasukawa is currently healing but whether either woman returns to wrestling remains to be seen. The video of the incident can be found below but, be warned, it is not for the faint of heart. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SA-JuRUf_EM
