5. Stan Hansen Almost Blinds Vader
There have been some pretty gross injuries sustained in the professional wrestling ring. Joey Mercury's face exploding at Armageddon 2006, Sid's leg snapping in two at WCW's Sin PPV and Cactus Jack losing his ear in Germany are stark reminders of the real danger of professional wrestling. But those injuries were freak accidents. The injury that Vader sustained in Japan during a match with Stan Hansen in February 1990 was the result of Hansen simply not pulling his punches and hitting Vader with excessive force. Hansen, who was blind without his glasses, broke Vader's nose when he caught him with an errant swing of his bullrope. Okay, so Vader must have already been annoyed with the broken nose before the bell had even sounded. Then, adding injury to injury, Hansen poked Vader in the eye, causing it to detach from its socket and hang on on the side of his face. Vader actually had to put the eye back in himself. Amazing, Vader continued the match and had more bone-battering exchanges with Hansen. Afterwards, he required extensive surgery and a metal plate was inserted under his eye to keep it in place. This incident shows just how shocking tough Japanese wrestling matches can be. After the match, Vader said that it had never crossed his mind to have it stopped. What a hard-case. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xl2u6d_stan-hansen-vs-big-van-vader_sport
