Onto more serious matters.

27 December 2017 was a sad day. On a house show card in Uniondale, New York, WWE booked a six-woman tag pitting Paige, Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville vs. Bayley, Sasha Banks and Mickie James. This seemingly-routine bout would be Paige's last in-ring appearance to date.

The Brit stopped trading some moves with Sasha and crumpled to the canvas in a heap. It became very clear immediately that this wasn't a work - Paige had injured herself mid-sequence and was in a ton of pain on the mat. Doctors and WWE officials rushed to the scene, but things didn't look good.

Fans enjoying some post-Christmas wrasslin' inside the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum fell silent as Paige was stretchered from the ring and to hospital. This was only the second match on the card, but "the show must go on", so WWE proceeded with a scheduled 10-man tag afterwards and Paige was forced to retire.
