The term 'Diva' has been heavily criticized by fans and WWE talent alike, with notable points made by former WWE competitors Alundra Blayze and Mickie James. Not only does it make the women sound less serious and more of a joke but it sounds more like a representation of models than athletes (which is why it was so accurate during the era of Kelly Kelly and the Bella Twins). Calling them Divas does not make them sound like hard-working wrestlers ready to put on great matches and tear the house down every time they step in a ring. It makes them sound like dramatic, catty women who definitely aren't to be taken seriously. Sure, the male roster are categorized as Superstars, but their main championship isn't called the Superstars championship and the label isn't used constantly like it is with the Divas. In NXT, the women are called women and the championship is called the Women's championship. Even their Instagram account refers to them as the Women's roster, whilst WWE refuses to drop the Diva brand. It's time to unify the language in the right way.
