10 Staples From Wrestling's Past WWE Must Bring Back

7. Managers

Not every wrestler can talk. That's where managers used to come in.

Bobby Heenan's "Family" - the WWF incarnation - was comprised by the likes of Haku and the Barbarian, both of whom enjoyed the sort of success they would not have attained without the Brain's heat magnetism.

Mr. Fuji, not generally considered amongst the very best managers, helped the Orient Express get over despite being almost antithetical to the accepted, heavily muscled WWF norm in that era, blinding his opponents and hooking their legs from underneath them with his cane.

More recently, Brock Lesnar in 2012 famously bombed in a lengthy in-ring promo prior to his match with John Cena at Extreme Rules. Paul Heyman was flown in to help the Beast recover his aura. The retooled Lesnar only need stand next to Heyman and look smug these days to get over with a live crowd.

The Heyman and CM Punk double act also proved that managers also add shade to an act when the wrestler himself is a gifted speaker; Heyman in his fawning buddy role helped cement Punk's 2012 heel run, which otherwise might have been compromised by the respect he'd earned from the wider audience.
