10 Strange Wrestling Attire Choices - Explained

9. Triple H's Cycling Shorts

Who knows?

Perhaps Triple H just really, really loves cycling, and is an expert at cycling!

Around 2003, Triple H, in a continuation of his "I'm as good as Ric Flair was in the late 1980s; after all, I hold the same belt!" phase, experimented with a palette beyond his de rigueur black trunks. He wore a pair of lilac trunks in a programme with Kevin Nash that didn't illuminate how drab those three (!) pay-per-view matches were. Still, they were rather fetching.

Later in the year, when programmed with Goldberg, Triple H ultimately went f*cking over with a strange sartorial choice: in that match that Goldberg did win, but didn't get over in because it was bloody long and unflattering, HHH wore cycling shorts. Odd, but also fitting; this match felt longer than the Tour De France.

Actually, we do know. Trips didn't wear the shorts in a bid to stand out where his trademark match didn't; he had torn his groin in an earlier encounter, and wore these "compression tights" to work around the injury. So he wasn't just a sad middle-aged dude who thought a biker aesthetic would make him look cool.

He was at WrestleMania 33, mind.
