The mid-2000s saw its fair share of characters being written off television in peculiar ways.

A year before WWE Chairman Vince McMahon had attempted to escape programming via limo explosion, his former allies The Spirit Squad were also set to leave Monday Night Raw for an extended spell.

Kenny, Mikey, Nicky, Mitch and Johnny had all been feuding with the likes of D-Generation X, Ric Flair and other WWE legends. However, by November 2006 they'd lost their World Tag Team Championships to the team of Flair and 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper and it was clear the company had ran out of ideas for them as a unit.

So, it was decided that the majority of the squad would be sent back down to OVW and repackaged as different characters (apart from Kenny Dykstra who would remain on Raw). Yet, instead of simply having them lose a 'losers leave town' match, WWE chose to hammer home the team's demotion by having Triple H and Shawn Michaels throw them into a box with the letters OVW stamped on the front of it.

They were then literally shipped back to OVW, with only Nicky (Dolph Ziggler) surviving in the company after this humiliating conclusion.
