10 Strangest WWE Re-packagings Ever

5. Earthquake Becomes Golga

When I started watching wrestling as an excitable child, Earthquake was big man challenger to Hulkamania. I was a little terrified of the big Canadian, particularly his completely believable finish of running off the ropes, and jumping into a sitting position on his opponent.

Earthquake was a staple of the WWF in the early 90s, and would also have a successful tag team run with Typhoon as the Natural Disasters. Earthquake headed to WCW where he worked under the names Avalanche and The Shark (hailing from the Great Barrier Reef), but he would return to the World Wrestling Federation in 1998.

Not as Earthquake though, but as Golga, the newest member of the faction called The Oddities. Golga wore a mask and an Eric Cartman t-shirt. In fact, the only real characteristic of the gimmick was that he had a fascination with Cartman, and would carry a Cartman doll around with him at all times.

I also had the same Eric Cartman doll at the time, and needless to say I wasn't pleased.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
