10 Stupidest Decisions By WWE In 2002

3. Is It 1996 Or 2002?

Survivor Series 2002 was an eventful night for WWE. You had the first ever Elimination Chamber match, a host of title changes and the debut of a certain genetic freak. Amongst the title changes were both World Titles, with Big Show capturing the WWE Title from Brock Lesnar and Shawn Michaels winning the World Heavyweight Title inside the Chamber. Big Show? Shawn Michaels? Was this 1996 or 2002? Neither title change made too much sense. Michaels was still very much a part-time performer and there was no guarantee over how long his body would hold up for. Sure, it provided a feel good moment and ended the event on a high, but shouldn't WWE have been looking at establishing stars, not bowing to nostalgia once again? Big Show, meanwhile, had been a big, fat disappointed for WWE for the past couple of years, at one point having been sent to OVW in order to shape up. WWE were trying with him once again, which is commendable, but did they have to sacrifice Brock Lesnar to him in order to do so? In five minutes, no less? Yes, Lesnar was injured (Big Show had busted one of his ribs during a house show bout) and wouldn't be able to wrestle for a month or so, but there must have been another way around it. The worst part of these two reigns was their transparent, transitional nature: Show dropped the belt to Angle and Michaels returned the favour to Triple H the next month at Armageddon. So what was the point, exactly?
