10 Stupidest Decisions By WWE In 2007

9. Making Hornsoggle The (Final) Cruiserweight Champion

Rey Mysterio. Eddie Guerrero. Chris Jericho. These are a few of the legendary names that helped elevate the Cruiserweight Title into something that meant something. WCW and WWE both tried their best to take some of the shine off the belt, so to speak, but it was always kept decent thanks to the efforts of the workers who took it seriously and strived to put on the best match they could, even if they were only given six minutes to do so.

By the time the belt was retired in late 2007, it's fair to say that it had been on the downturn for a while thanks, in the main, to WWE's refusal to devote time and attention to promoting it and those in the division. The final nail in the coffin was WWE making Hornswoggle the surprise champion during a Cruiserweight invitational at the Great American Bash pay-per-view.

The former Little Bastard defended the title once or twice on television before it was stripped from him after it was revealed he was Vince McMahon's illegitimate son (more on that soon).

Any time you give a genuine title belt to somebody for comedic reasons, it instantly devalues it. There was no coming back for the Cruiserweight Title after this and, considering WWE is about to relaunch the cruisers on Raw, perhaps along with a new Cruiserweight Title.
