10 Stupidest Decisions By WWE In 2007
3. 'Donald Trump Vs. Rosie O'Donnell'
The January 8th, 2007 episode of WWE Raw was viewed internally as a total disaster thanks to one ill-judged match. In an attempt to cash-in on the real-life feud between actress and talk show host Rosie O'Donnell and Oh God, America please don't make him President Donald Trump, Vince McMahon announced a match between the two.
Only, of course, it wasn't actually between the real Trump and Rosie. No, it was between two doubles portraying them. In the build-up to the match, McMahon presented several deeply unfunny skits that lampooned the hotel magnate (played by independent wrestler Ace Steel) and the HILARIOUSLY overweight O'Donnell. You could hear wrestling fans trying to retreat into themselves as Vince fed her cakes backstage.
The 'match' itself was a total farce but it was the crowd's reaction to it that really made WWE regret the whole thing. As the two rolled around the mat, a large majority of those in the Scottrade Center began chanting 'boring' and, worse, 'TNA'. The smile evaporated from Vince's face as thousands began bellowing the name of his closest competition.
The match/angle was a total failure, insulting to fans and failing to garner any real degree of mainstream media attention outside of a solitary TMZ article. Rosie O'Donnell herself didn't even mention it on The View, showing just how much she cared about the sendup.
