With Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart, you had one of the most successful tag wrestlers in WWF history but also someone who struggled to connect with the audience as a singles wrestler. While Neidhart may never have main evented on his own, he was an extremely recognizable name to wrestling fans and just needed some freshening up.

The WWF decided that his new character would come from a 50 year old comedy routine.

In 1996, Neidhart debuted as the masked character named "Who"....that was the extent of thought put into the guy. What resulted was Jerry Lawler and Vince McMahon cracking "hilarious" jokes based on the famous Abbott and Costello routine from the 1940s.

The commentary featured comedic gems such as this:

"Who is really taking it to his opponent right now."

"Who is?"

"Yes."

Amazingly enough, this didn't get over with fans and Who went back to being Jim Neidhart.

Who did?

Right.
