10 Most Successful WWE Champions Ever

10. Randy Savage - 520 Combined Days As Champion

Macho Man Randy Savage was one of the very biggest WWF stars of the 1980's. That fame continued into the early 90's, with Savage working as both a heel and babyface. His connection with the fans was based on several factors. Foremost he was a colourful character, distinctive with his shades and outfits. He also cut a hell of a promo, "oooooooooh yeah!" What we remember most about Savage though was his great matches. An accomplished in-ring worker, he had arguably the greatest WWF match ever, losing to Ricky Steamboat at WrestleMania 3. Whether it was on the mat or from the top rope, he could get it done better than just about anybody. Even his matches with Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior were of fine quality. Savage's WWF title reigns started with WrestleMania victories, defeating Ted DiBiase in 1988 and Ric Flair in 1992. His first reign famously ended in 1989 against Hulk Hogan, after the babyface Macho Man had became a full blown heel. The match came at the height of the cartoon era and proved Savage's credentials as a main event draw. What's really notable about Savage being in the top ten of this list, is his competition in the period he reigned. He achieved his 520 days over just two reigns, when guys like Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior were buzzing around the scene. To hold the belt for so long when The Hulkster was about is truly remarkable. Hogan was the most over act ever at that point, so for Savage to shut him out of the title for over a year is very impressive.
