"The Lex Express has stopped at SummerSlam," was the exclamation to Vince McMahon's introduction to SummerSlam '93, featuring the main event of Yokozuna vs. Lex Luger. While the conclusion proved to be a letdown, this SummerSlam makes this list not so much because of how great the event was, but more so because of how poor 1993's WrestleMania was.

The infamous WrestleMania IX featured no in-ring performances to speak of, a few DQ or countout finishes (2 from title matches), and a bogus conclusion to the main event in which Hulk Hogan inexplicably won his fifth WWF Championship despite not even being involved in the original main event of Bret Hart vs. Yokozuna.

It didn't take much from the August PPV to top the Showcase Of The Immortals in 1993. The Hitman's two matches (vs. Doink and vs. Jerry Lawler) were better than anything from Las Vegas, a disappointing yet serviceable match between Mr. Perfect and Shawn Michaels bested the Mania IC title affair, and the tag bout between the Steiners and Heavenly Bodies is worth watching.

In 1993, WWE struggled with their Pay-Per-View offerings, made obvious by the disappointment surrounding the promotion's two biggest shows. Although it's far from a ringing endorsement, SummerSlam '93 did just enough to outperform WrestleMania IX.
