10 Superstars With Pasts They Want You To Forget

8. Randy Orton

Randy Orton has been a fixture in WWE's main events for almost a decade and seems firmly entrenched. Orton was a wrestling prodigy, receiving a push almost as soon as he joined WWE and winning the world title multiple times. Unfortunately, Orton's military career didn't go quite a smoothly. Orton's dad, "Cowboy" Bob Orton, tried to talk his son out of going into wrestling due to the life on the road so, when a Marines recruiting officer showed up at his high school, Orton signed up for the military. He was assigned to Campe Pendleton, California and almost immediately things took a turn for the worse. Orton hated being in the Marines and began immediately looking for a way out. He allegedly tried to get himself hurt and pretending to limp for almost a month in hopes of getting sent home. As a last resort, Orton decided to just leave and traveled back to his home in St. Louis. He stayed at home for almost three months and hoped that the military would come and arrest him and finally kick him out of the Marines. Unfortunately for Randy, no one showed up to arrest him. He returned to the base and turned himself in, still hoping for an AWOL charge and a removal from the branch. However, his director ordered him to return to work and stop trying to get kicked out but Orton refused. As a result of not obeying an order, Orton was sentenced to 115 days in military prison. He was released after 38 and sent him with a dishonorable discharge. WWE has done a fairly good job of burying this story but recent events brought it back into the spotlight. Randy Orton was originally cast in the movie The Marine 3 but was fired after his AWOL past caused members of the Marines to complain about Orton's casting. The Miz replaced him in the movie and Orton was called a disgrace to the uniform by more than one person.
