6. Tommaso Ciampa

While Tammaso Ciampa might not be what many would consider to be ‘Main Event Material’, he undoubtedly has a bright future ahead of him as an aggressive mid-card fiend. His pairing with Johnny Gargano has been immensely popular within NXT’s Tag Team circuit, but it feels like only a matter of time before the Psycho Killer ultimately turns on his best friend.

A breakup has been teased infrequently and sporadically throughout DIY’s run. Whenever Gargano gets pinned, Ciampa seems to be on the verge of snapping. Then of course there’s the duo’s fantastic match from the Cruiserweight Classic, wherein a defeated Tommaso relucatantly overcame his frustrations to share a hug with Johnny Wrestling.

If and when the two finally do clash, it’ll make for one of the most heated betrayal storylines since Owens vs Zayn, a narrative with one foot in fantasy and one in reality. Both men will really be able to shine too; Ciampa is the meaner, more vicious competitor, while Gargano is a charismatic and sympathetic hero. Everything about Gargano screams likability, while Ciampa looks like the guy you’d cross the street to avoid making eye contact with. If the feud plays out well, Tommaso Ciampa will be well on his way to being one of the surliest, most brutal heels in modern WWE.
