Much to the chagrin of many hardcore wrestling fans, Punk's epic 434-day run as the WWE Champion came to an end when he was defeated by The Rock at the Royal Rumble 2013. However, the ending of the match was not without controversy as CM Punk actually pinned The Rock after an attack from the Shield. The match was ordered to be restarted by Vince McMahon, leading to The Rock nailing Punk with the People's Elbow and winning the title. Apoplectic with rage, CM Punk took to the mic the following night to rave about how he was "screwed", screaming "I did not lose!" and "I am the champion!" Before the two men's rematch for the championship at Elimination Chamber, The Rock challenged CM Punk to come to the ring and take the belt. Punk then walked into Elimination Chamber, with the title being carried to the ring by his weasel lackey, Heyman.
