8. Chris Kanyon

As WWE decided against buying out the contracts of WCW's top stars prior to the Invasion angle, Chris Kanyon was one of the best-known names to make the jump. He soon became United States Champion and while his reign didn't last long, he was a prominent member of the Alliance until suffering a knee injury. Bad luck turned even worse, though, and before returning to TV, Kanyon hurt his shoulder. He nearly died after experiencing an allergic reaction to post-surgical medications, but eventually made a full recovery and reported back to OVW.

He stayed there for months until WWE finally brought him to Smackdown, where he dressed as Boy George and was attacked by The Undertaker in one of the show's more infamous angles. Despite working hard and showing his talent in every match, Kanyon floundered for another year before being released. It was the final major run of a career that never reached the heights it should have.

After coming out as gay in 2006, Kanyon said that the Boy George angle and his eventual firing were due to homophobia on WWE's part.
