10 Surprising Failures As WWE Champion

1. Rob Van Dam

People were calling for Rob Van Dam to be a WWE Champion for years. Particularly in 2002, fans were dumbfounded that he was used as a jobber and mid carder. With in-ring skills and a unique promo style, he always seemed to have so much more potential. He didn't even make the main card for WrestleMania 19 in 2003. He was continually overlooked in the booking up until the spring of 2006, when WWE saw the opportunity to make him the WWE Champion as part of the uprising ECW storyline that was so hot at the time. This was the big chance that RVD had been waiting for, and he could have used it to become one of the very biggest main event stars. But instead he squandered his opportunity. Less than a month after becoming WWE Champion at ECW One Night Stand, he was stopped by police for speeding and found to be in possession of eighteen grams of marijuana. WWE had him drop the title at the very next taping, and he never won a major championship again. As one of the most talented stars of his generation, he only had himself to blame for never realising his potential as a WWE Champion.
