10 Surprising Wrestlers Retiring Sooner Than You Think

3. Edge

That man again, Dax Harwood, sparked an interesting conversation very recently.

He named Edge and Christian as his dream tag team opponents on the FTR podcast, and even intimated that it may not even be a dream match. "[This match] is more possible than a lot of people might think," he disclosed.

Let's parse this one.

Edge isn't tied to a long-term, full-time WWE contract. Dax and Cash Wheeler are free agents in April. They could feasibly jump to WWE, but they'd need Christian Cage to complete the dynamic, and he revealed to Renee Paquette on The Sessions, shortly after signing with AEW in March 2021, that he signed a "long-term" deal. "I'm here for the long haul," he reiterated, which should put him in AEW for at least three years, with a general idea of how wrestling contracts work. He won't be available for at least one more year, and Tony Khan, increasingly vexed by WWE's meddling, might pull off the bastard's trick and add the time Cage has spent on the injured list to his deal.

Edge, after defeating Damien Priest in Toronto last year, revealed to the crowd that in "a perfect world", he and the fans will say goodbye to one another when WWE hits the city again on its annual August trip.

So Edge is retiring - or jumping - in August of this year.

Maybe. He's a wrestler, after all.

It's one to keep an eye on, although Dax teased Chad Gable's exit from WWE two years ago - "I know you’re not allowed to respond to me publicly for about 2 more months" - and nothing came of it.
