10 Tag Teams That Should Never Have Worked (But Did)

A classic tale of bitter enemies turned effective allies, The Rock and Mick Foley have a long, storied history.

Rocky turned heel on Mick's most outlandish persona, Mankind, in late 1998 and they engaged in a series of violent, bloody wars throughout the ensuing months. Theirs is one of the Attitude Era's most memorable rivalries, but as compelling as their work against each other was, they were just as entertaining after coming together.

Both were among the period's biggest heroes, so it's no great surprise that the crowd took to them immediately. Still, Rock and Mankind weren't exactly comparable as babyfaces. Rock's character was impossibly smooth, flashy, and arrogant, while Foley's was a scruffy loon. One slept in five-star hotels, and the other was just as happy sharing a grimy motel room with a dozen cockroaches.

Their dynamic was unique. Rock gave the impression that he was annoyed by Mankind, but he always seemed genuinely fond of his dishevelled sidekick - up to the moment he finally broke Foley's heart by dropping a copy of his book, Have A Nice Day!, in the trash. A more compelling odd couple you won't find anywhere.
