10 Talented Wrestlers Let Down By Lame Gimmicks

2. Billy Gunn (Mr. A**)

Stretching right back to his days as one half of The Smoking Gunns, it was clear to see that Billy Gunn had all the potential in the world to strike out on his own; post-Gunns, though, Billy struggled as the lame 'Rockabilly' before landing on success as The New Age Outlaws.

Determined to once again try to push him as a singles star, the WWF's creative team leaned heavily on the 'Bad A**' moniker Billy had patterned for himself and morphed the man slowly into 'Mr. A**' just in time for a 1999 push.

Obsessed with all things butt, the 'A** Man' character was supposed to kick start Gunn's ascent into the WWF's upper echelons, but it just left people feeling weird about watching him perform; regularly shaking his behind and fixated on admiring his posterior, Billy was never going to succeed with this embarrassing gimmick.

Admittedly, the 'Mr. Ass' persona is remembered - but that's more due to how much it hampered Billy Gunn's rise up the card rather than any nostalgic fondness. With the more credible 'Bad Ass' name, Billy may have achieved greater things on his own.
