10 Things You Didn't Know About WWE In 2002

10. Eddie Guerrero Was Supposed To Feud With Steve Austin

Eddie Guerrero returned to the WWF two weeks after WrestleMania X8. Guerrero, who had cleaned up his act since being fired by the company in November (after he failed to stay sober and got a DUI), attacked Intercontinental Champion Rob Van Dam on Raw, setting up a programme between the two. Eddie proved that he had renewed focus during the RVD series. The two had some phenomenal matches on TV, house shows and on PPV. Their best effort was their main event ladder match from Raw. Following the Van Dam feud, Eddie was to move on to a feud with none other than Stone Cold Steve Austin. Austin was out of the title picture and coming off of disappointing feuds with Scott Hall, The Big Show and Ric Flair. He had wanted to work with a talented, motivated veteran like Eddie and hand-picked him for a summer programme. Austin and Eddie had some interaction on television and worked a few main events on house shows (which got rave reviews). Unfortunately, Austin walked out on the company as the programme was just getting started when he was asked to job clean to Brock Lesnar in a King of the Ring qualifying match. Eddie began tangling with Ric Flair and Bubba Ray & Spike Dudley instead, before being transferred to Smackdown in August.
